Installing the SSL VPN Client

Users who feel comfortable installing/configuring the software can use the "Quick Start" (text only) steps below, or the "Detailed Instructions" (step by step with images) further down.

Quick Start

  1. Open Internet Explorer and go to https://vpn.cablevision.com

  2. Sign in using your VPN UserID and RSA Passcode

  3. Click yes or OK when prompted to install the VPN client software.  You may need to allow pop-ups for installation to complete.  Once installation is complete you will be connected to the VPN. (If you wish, you can close the browser window without being disconnected from the VPN.

  4. Create a desktop icon for the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client by right clicking "Programs/Cisco/Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client/Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client" in the start menu and dragging it to the desktop.  Select create shortcut from the menu.  For future VPN sessions you can simply click the icon to start the VPN client.

Note: The RSA Software Token for Windows is now integrated with the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.  This means that if you have installed the RSA Software Token for Windows on the same PC or laptop that you are using to connect to the VPN then the AnyConnect Client will run the RSA software in the background to generate a Passcode.   On the login screen you will be prompted for your "Username" and "PIN or Passcode."  Enter your User ID in the Username field and your four digit PIN in the PIN or Passcode field. Also the software token integration will NOT work when using Sign-on Before Login (SBL) Discussed above.

Detailed Installation Instructions

1. Open Internet Explorer and go to https://vpn.cablevision.com

2. Enter your VPN user ID and an RSA passcode to login.

3. The client installation will begin.  You may be prompted to allow the installation to take place.

4. When the installation is complete you will be connected to the VPN.

Note: When you see the screen below indicating that you are connected you can safely navigate away from, or close this browser window without fear of being disconnected from the VPN.

5. See below for detailed login instructions.

Detailed Login Instructions

These instructions assume that you have completed the VPN client installation instructions above and that you have logged out of your initial VPN session.

1. Start the VPN client by clicking the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client icon on your desktop or select "Programs/Cisco/Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client/Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client" from the Start Menu.  Type vpn.cablevision.com in the "Connect to:" field and click the Select button.

2. Enter your User ID in the "Username:" field and your RSA Passcode in the "PIN or Passcode:" field. (If you do not have the RSA Software Token application installed on the same machine, it will simply say “Passcode:”

You will not have to run the RSA Token software to generate a Passcode and copy and paste it into the VPN login window.  On the login screen simply enter your four digit PIN into the "PIN or Passcode" field.

3. If you entered your PIN then the AnyConnect client will call the RSA software to generate a Passcode.

3. Your credentials will be validated and you will be logged into the VPN.

Sign-on Before Login(SBL)?

Some employees need the ability to connect to the VPN prior to logging in to thier PC. Because these users will be already connected to the Cablevision network, they can then login to the domain and get all their mapped drives upon login. This is also helpful if you have more that one computer. An example would be if you changed your Novell/Active Directory credentials while in the office, but now the local account on your laptop or other remote machine no longer matches that password.

***** PLEASE NOTE: Step 2 above in the Detailed Login Instructions explains how the SSL client integrates with the RSA Software Token if you have that installed. YOU CANNOT USE THIS FEATURE IN THE PRE-LOGIN PHASE! If you are planning on using the SBL feature, make sure you have either a Software Token on your Blackberry/iPhone, or a keyfob hard token. Windows security feature do not allow Pre-Login applications to access non PLAP or Gina components like RSA. You must be able to generate your passcode on another device.

If you need to install the SBL Components, please click the link at the top of the page for Windows 7 or Windows XP  instructions.
